Chardonnay, Syrah, and Pinot Noir are transcendent for us.
beauty and the beast
Lauren grew up in Germany, and in our partnership, she is the Teutonic voice of logic. Vinetending satisfies her needs to nurture and to bring order to chaos. At our home in Carlton, she grows heirloom vegetables, blueberries, kiwis, sunflowers, far too many jade plants, and a collection of orphan botanicals, saved from compost piles and regrown from cuttings.
Adam is our obsessive, creative, instinctive half. He was the guitarist-vocalist-frontman in a California performance-art band when he discovered wine and quit music, but he never lost an appreciation for bombast. He sees winemaking as variations on a theme, and his work as interpretations and reinterpretations of classical Chardonnay, Syrah and Pinot Noir.
Having implemented so many farming methods in so many places all over the world, Lauren has honed her personal philosophy to two guiding principles: Listen to the vineyard. And support biodiversity.
Her lutte raisonée approach encompasses the fundamentals of Biodynamic and organic agriculture. Our vineyards thrum with hummingbirds, wildflowers, bees and dragonflies.
we don’t try to get the most out of every vineyard.
Adam might be an edgy guy, but he follows a traditional non-interventionist cellar regime, utilizing whole clusters and allowing our wines to breathe and ferment spontaneously.
At the same time, his style can be unabashedly sybaritic. His wines are like antique velvet: venerable and luxuriant. He believes in encouraging grapes to express their full potential.
winemaking is spiritually satisfying.
